Live in Atlanta and interested in alternative health?

I recently began writing for Examiner.com as their Atlanta Alternative Health Examiner.  I've been practicing meditation and yoga for over ten years, and my journey through chronic illness (and several surgeries) led me to seek out complementary, alternative and holistic treatments for healing and wellness.  It's one of the reasons I became a Reiki practitioner and teacher. I wanted to bring my knowledge of these treatments - and where to find them - in the Atlanta area.

Atlanta's CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) base has been growing significantly over the past eight to ten years, but if you're seeking out alternative health treatments for the first time, it can be difficult to know where to go.  Atlanta is a sprawling city and pockets of communities open to alternative health have taken root.  You just have to know where to look!

Over the years, I have researched and tried out some of these therapies, or know people who are practicing.  We tend to find each other because we're interested in mind, body and spirit work.  I also run my Dragonfly Reiki practice out of Candler Park Chiropractic, which has increased my access to complementary and alternative practitioners.  (Here's a tip: a bunch of them already work there!)

Complementary and alternative medicine is not a substitute for medical treatment from a qualified physician.  CAM therapies can be of great benefit by reducing stress, discomfort and potentially reducing the use of medications that can cause unwanted side effects.  It's always a good idea to let your physician know if you are interested in, or are currently incorporating alternative therapies into your wellness regimen.  Some CAM therapies, including chiropractic, massage therapy and acupuncture, are routinely accepted now by mainstream medicine and may even be prescribed by your doctor!

If you would like to receive articles each week from me on Atlanta-based alternative health topics, visit my Examiner page and select the option to subscribe via email or RSS.  I look forward to sharing all of this great information with you - and from hearing from you too!
